THE TALE is an investigation into one woman’s memory as she is forced to re-examine her first sexual relationship and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.
The film stars Academy® and Emmy Award® winner Laura Dern, Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn, and Academy Award® winning musician, Common.
THE TALE premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, secured worldwide distribution from HBO Films, and received critical acclaim including numerous nominations for the Emmy Awards, Gotham Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

About Our Work
For Impact Productions’ Founder Simone Pero is one of the film’s producers and co-creator of a hybrid funding and distribution model coined “Social Impact Fiction”.
For Impact Productions also led THE TALE’s Global Outreach and Social Impact campaign which was lauded for its on-the-ground work to transform the understanding and conversation of the worldwide child sexual abuse epidemic. Collaborating with top experts, advocates, and the media we created a comprehensive, resource-focused website for the film’s audiences and parlayed THE TALE into an important element in policy advancement, global advocacy initiatives, and clinical and academic forums.
