THE TALE is an investigation into one woman’s memory as she is forced to re-examine her first sexual relationship and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.
The film stars Academy® and Emmy Award® winner Laura Dern, Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn, and Academy Award® winning musician, Common.
THE TALE premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, secured worldwide distribution from HBO Films, and received critical acclaim including numerous nominations for the Emmy Awards, Gotham Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

About Our Work
For Impact Productions’ Founder Simone Pero was one of THE TALE’s producers and co-creator of the film’s groundbreaking hybrid funding and distribution model coined “Social Impact Fiction.”
For Impact Productions also led THE TALE’s Global Outreach and Social Impact Campaign which was lauded for its work on the worldwide epidemic of child sexual abuse. We developed a coalition of top experts, advocates, and the media to inspire transformation in the conversation and understanding of sexual abuse, we created a comprehensive, resource-focused website for the film’s audiences, and parlayed THE TALE into an important element in policy advancement, global advocacy initiatives, and clinical and academic forums.
